The Department of Technical Education was established in 1948 to bring the various activities pertaining to the Technical Education at all level under one roof. This Department was made responsible to administer and control various activities pertaining to engineering colleges, polytechnic, ITIs, Technical Schools, Government Industrial Training Workshop and other certificate courses concerned with Vocational and Technical TrainingSince the last the two decades activities of various programme under Directorate of Technical Education has increase tremendously and in order to match the skilled manpower requirement the training activities has been increased by way of starting new government as well as non government institution in the State. In order to have smooth functioning of these activities Directorate of Technical Education is bifurgated into two Directorate namely 1. Directorate of Technical Education 2. Directorate of Vocational Education & Training. The administration responsibilities in respect of craftsman training scheme ( ITI), Government Industrial Training workshop, Vocationalisation of Education at + 2 Stage , Technical Education at secondary level and certificate / alied Vocational courses etc are interested with the Directorate of Vocational Education and Training In the year 1984 the state government setup the separate Directorate as Directorate of Vocational Education & Training to organised and implement the various technical education activities
